PASSAGE MONTREAL FOR GLASGOW. TORPEDOED SOME 20FT FROM THE STERN WHILE STEAMING AT 20 KNOTS BY U-53. WAS ABANDONED AND SANK. CARGO 7000 TONS GENERAL, 440 HORSES, 109 DISTRESSED BRITISH SEAMEN (DMS) AND 44 MILITARY PERSONNEL. 15 CREW LOST. (SII).
