BUILT IN 1963 BY MITSUBISHI NIPPON HEAVY INDUSTRIES. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY ADRIATIC TRANSPORTS. PASSAGE EUROPOORT FOR BELFAST. VESSEL RAN AGROUND NEAR THE HATS & BARRELS ROCKS, 4.5 MILES E OF THE SMALLS LT HO. REFLOATED HERSELF 3 HRS LATER AND THE CAPTAIN DECIDED TO CONTINUE HIS VOYAGE. THE VESSEL THEN DEVELOPED A LIST, AND LEAKING OIL CAUSED A 12 MILE LONG SLICK. WHEN IT APPEARED SHE WAS SLOWLY SINKING, 19 OF THE 32 CREW WERE TAKEN OFF, THE REST REMAINING TO TRY AND SAVE THE STRICKEN SHIP. NUMEROUS SHIPS ARRIVED TO FIGHT THE OIL SLICK, WHILST THE TANKER WAS TAKEN IN TOW UNTIL 2 FUTHER TANKERS ARRIVED TO TRANSFER THE REMAINING OIL TO THEIR OWN TANKS. THIS OPERATION WAS HAMPERED BY GALES AND HIGH SEAS AND TOOK SEVERAL DAYS. MOST OF THE SLICK WAS DISPERSED AT SEA, BUT A LITTLE DID DRIFT ASHORE OFF THE WELSH & N DEVON COASTS. THE TANKER WAS THEN TOWED TO A POSITION APPROX 300 MILES WEST OF FASTNET ROCK WHERE SHE WAS SCUTTLED. (MSD).
