16.5.32 BUILT 1931 IN FRANCE. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY MESSAGERIES MARITIMES. OIL ENGINE OF 11600 IHP FOR 17.5 KTS. CAUGHT FIRE WHILE ON RETURN MAIDEN VOYAGE YOKOHAMA FOR MARSEILLES ON 16.5.32 & SANK AFTER BEING ABANDONED. ALMOST COMPLETELY GUTTED THREE DAYS LATER. GOLD INGOTS WERE REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN TAKEN ON BOARD AT COLOMBO, THE LAST PORT OF CALL. (DODS & SHIPS MONTHLY, NOV '85).
