A 2 FUNNEL PASSENGER SHIP WITH A HEIGHT OF 52FT. (RISDON BEAZLEY, 27.10.76, SURVEYED IN 1956-57). NCA. H2883/83 8.8.84 EXAM'D 4.10.83 IN 581252N, 054353W [OGB] USING TRISPONDER. LEAST E/S DEPTH 88MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 103MTRS. SCOUR 0.5MTRS DEEP. DCS3 HT 14MTRS, LENGTH 118MTRS. LYING NW/SE. (LAND & MARINE, HI 159). BR STD. 1.2.01 CONSIDER THIS TO BE CARIBBEAN. (K HEATH, TELECON 1.2.01). NCA. 30.7.04 WK IS UPRIGHT, RELATIVELY INTACT BUT DECKS AND MOST OF THE SUPERSTRUCTURE HAS COLLAPSED. THE FOREMAST LIES ACROSS THE WRECK AND TWO ANCHORS ARE CLEARLY VISIBLE IN THE BOWS. A LARGE TRAWL NET HAS BEEN SNAGGED AND ABANDONED CLOSE TO THE BRIDGE, WHERE THE SUBSTANTIAL HELM LIES TOPPLED. Circumstances of loss

19.11.1914 BUILT IN 1809 AT GOVAN. EX-DUNNOTAR CASTLE OF THE UNION CASTLE LINE. RENAMED CARIBBEAN BY THE ROYAL MAIL STEAM PACKEY CO. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY THE ADMIRALTY. HIRED 19.11.1914 AS A TRANSPORT AND LATER AS AN ARMED MERCHANT CRUISER. CONVERTED TO ACCOMMODATION SHIP DURING SUMMER 1915 BY CAMMEL LARID'S, BIRKENHEAD. DURING RETURN PASSAGE LIVEPOOL FOR SCAPA FLOWN TOOK WATER FWD ON 26.9.15 THROUGH OPEN SCUTTLES. LATER TOOK FURTHER WATER, POSSIBLY DUE TO DAMAGED PLATES. FINALLY SANK VERTICALLY ON 27.9.1915. 15 CREW LOST.
