H3000/88 12.8.88 OPERATION TO BREAK UP WK COMMENCED ON 8.8.88 AND SHOULD TAKE ABOUT 2 MONTHS. VEHICLES AND LOWER PART OF HULL WILL BE SUNK IN DEEP WATER 40M OFFSHORE. (LL, 4.8.88 & 11.8.88). H3000/88 22.9.88 VESSEL TOTAL LOSS AND TO BE REMOVED IN OCTOBER AND SUNK APPROX 160KM OFF COAST OF PORTUGAL IN DEEP WATER. VEHICLE CARGO IS TO BE DUMPED SOME 40M OFF THE COAST. (LL, 15.9.88). H3000/88 1.2.89 WK BROKEN NEAR BOW AND ALSO NEAR STERN AND CENTRAL SECTION NOW SUNK. FIRE HAS BEEN REPORTED IN STERN SECTION. BREAKING UP OPS BY BUGSIER/SMIT WERE SUSPENDED IN OCT '88. (LL, 5.1.89). HH363/350/01 4.5.89 TWO-THIRDS OF VESSEL AND 3000 CARS REMAIN ON SITE AFTER WORK WAS ABANDONED. FURTHER WORK IS PLANNED. (LL, 19.4.89). HH363/350/01 13.6.89 VESSEL NOW TO BE LIFTED IN SECTIONS ONTO PONTOONS AND THEN REMOVED FOR BREAKING. ABOUT 16000TONS METAL REMAINS, TO BE CLEARED WITHIN 120 DAYS. WORK COMMENCED 27.5.89. (LL, 26.5.89). HH363/350/01 11.7.89 STRANDED IN 410600N, 084000W APPROX. SALVAGE OPS IN HAND. AREA OF AT LEAST 0.5M RADIUS FROM WK TO BE KEPT CLEAR OF UNAUTHORISED VESSELS. (LISBON NM 109/89(T)). SAILED FROM LEIXOES AFTER PARTIALLY UNLOADING, TOOK ON LIST AND EVENTUALLY GROUNDED. 1 OF 22 CREW LOST. (LL, 28.4.88).
