BUILT IN 1913 BY FAIRFIELD SHIPBUILDING CO., WITH TURBINE ENGINES OF 3720NHP. OWNED AT TIME OF LOSS BY CANADIAN PACIFIC RAILWAY CO. WAS TRANSPORTING 2200 TROOPS TO THE FAR EAST WHEN ATTACKED BY 9 JAPANESE DIVE-BOMBERS 6M OFF SINGAPORE. VESSEL CAUGHT FIRE AFTER BEING HIT FIVE TIMES. MANY HUNDREDS OF TROOPS WERE SAVED WHEN AUSTRALIAN SLOOP 'YARRA' CAME ALONGSIDE AND ALSO DROVE OFF THE BOMBERS WITH ANTI-AIRCRAFT FIRE. VESSEL DRIFTED ASHORE AND BURNT OUT. SEVEN DEAD, 153 TAKEN PRISONER BY JAPANESE. (DODS).
